NEET Tokyo (ニートtokyo), the interview-focused YouTube channel run by Japanese rapper SEEDA, has returned online with a newly published episode, following a hacking incident that took the channel down in late June.
According to Natalie, the channel was deleted on June 27 after a third party gained unauthorized access to it. NEET Tokyo was restored on July 7, and the same day the channel released a new interview with self-produced artist ksr:3, titled “ksr:3: Comparing Japan and Europe – Differences in Patriotism.”
NEET Tokyo has built its reputation on in-depth conversations with figures from Japan’s hip-hop and rap scenes since its 2017 launch, with SEEDA earning praise not only for his music but also for his work as a video creator and interviewer.
Who is NEET Tokyo?
NEET Tokyo is a YouTube interview series hosted by SEEDA, a Tokyo-born rapper known for his bilingual rap style blending Japanese and English lyrics. SEEDA released the genre-defining 2006 album “Hana to Ame” (Flower and Rain) and has helped shape the Japanese hip-hop scene through the “CONCRETE GREEN” mixtape series, which he has produced with DJ ISSO since 2006 to spotlight up-and-coming rappers. SEEDA launched NEET Tokyo in 2017 as a platform for interviews with rappers and other hip-hop-affiliated artists, and the channel has since become known for its candid, in-depth conversations.
The channel’s latest guest, ksr:3, is a self-produced artist who released a 17-track debut album in April featuring collaborations with SEEDA and fellow artist safmusic. No further details on the cause of the unauthorized access, or whether any channel data was lost, have been disclosed.
