Voice actress and singer Sumire Uesaka (上坂すみれ) has filed a criminal complaint with police after receiving a string of malicious threatening emails, her talent agency VOICE KIT announced on September 24.
According to a statement posted on the agency’s official website, Uesaka’s management office was sent multiple threatening emails that included warnings of physical harm directed at her. The messages disrupted her professional activities, forcing her to withdraw from scheduled event appearances and pause her social media output while the situation was addressed.
VOICE KIT said it has been cooperating with investigators and has now submitted a formal police report covering the threats. The agency added that it intends to respond firmly going forward, stating it will take strict action, including legal measures as necessary, against those responsible.
The agency did not disclose the specific content of the emails or say whether any suspects have been identified, and it remains unclear when Uesaka is expected to resume her full schedule of public appearances and online activity.

Author’s Comment
Okay, this one actually makes me angry, and not in my usual sarcastic way. Someone sent threats of real harm to a voice actress’s office and apparently thought that was a reasonable use of their time — it wasn’t. Japan’s seiyuu and idol fandoms can be some of the most devoted in the world, but that devotion has an ugly little corner where a tiny minority mistakes obsession for entitlement, and this is exactly where it lands. I’m glad VOICE KIT didn’t just quietly bury this as a PR problem and actually went to the police, because too many agencies here still treat this kind of thing as embarrassing rather than dangerous. Hope she gets back to being wonderfully weird on stage soon without having to look over her shoulder.
