Voice Actress Idol Unit i☆Ris to End Activities at the Close of 2027

Japanese voice actress idol unit i☆Ris (アイリス) will end its activities at the close of 2027, the group announced on its official website. The decision arrives as the quintet nears its 15th anniversary, with all five members wrapping up performances together by the end of that year.

The current lineup — Saki Yamakita (山北早紀), Yu Serizawa (芹澤優), Himika Akaya (茜屋日海夏), Yuki Wakai (若井友希), and Miyu Kubota (久保田未夢) — said the choice followed roughly a year of discussions among the members and staff about the group’s direction and each member’s individual future. Wakai explained in a statement that the decision wasn’t prompted by any single event, but grew out of the members’ own reflections. She said that since passing the group’s 10th anniversary as recording artists, she had come to feel that \”life as an idol might not be forever,\” and that she had long hoped that whenever the end came, the members would face it together, in agreement. Leader Yamakita struck a more forward-looking tone, framing the remaining time as \”i☆Ris’ climax\” and pledging to enjoy every moment with fans \”until the very last day.\”

Before the group’s run concludes, i☆Ris will mark its 14th anniversary as recording artists with a live show titled \”i☆Ris 14th Anniversary Live ~FANTASISTA~\” at Yokohama Arena on November 3, 2026.

Who is i☆Ris?

i☆Ris is often described as a \”hybrid\” unit that lets its members work simultaneously as voice actresses and as a pop idol group. The five members were brought together in 2012 through an \”Anisong Vocalist Audition\” jointly held by talent agency 81 Produce and record label avex, and the group made its artist debut that November with the single \”Color.\” Starting in 2014, all five members voiced main characters in the long-running anime series \”PriPara\” and performed its theme songs, a project that helped build the group’s fan base. i☆Ris won the Best Singing Award at the 10th Seiyu Awards in March 2016 and played its first solo concert at Tokyo’s Budokan arena that November. The group celebrated its 10th debut anniversary with the theatrical anime film \”i☆Ris the Movie – Full Energy!!\” in 2024 and released its fifth album, \”ViVa i☆DOL,\” in April 2025. Outside the group, each member also maintains an active solo career as a voice actress, stage performer, radio host, or DJ.

No farewell concert or tour schedule beyond the Yokohama Arena anniversary show has been announced yet. i☆Ris and its members are expected to continue group and individual activities through the end of 2027.

Author’s Comment

Fifteen years is a lifetime in idol years, and I have to say, ending things on your own terms — with everyone in agreement — is about the rarest kind of idol group finale there is. No scandal, no messy lineup drama, no label forcing a ‘graduation’ nobody wanted; just five women who sat down, talked it through, and decided together. That’s almost unheard of in this industry, where groups usually limp on past their expiration date or get yanked apart by a management shakeup. I love that Wakai’s reasoning boils down to ‘idol life isn’t forever, so let’s end it as one’ — that’s maturity you rarely get from a pop group, let alone one still filling Budokan-sized venues. Enjoy the next fourteen months, i☆Ris fans; something tells me this farewell lap is going to be a tear-soaked, deeply Japanese kind of beautiful.
