Godzilla-0.0: Min Tanaka Joins Cast as Minus One Stars Return for Sequel

Toho has released the first poster and teaser trailer for “Godzilla-0.0,” the sequel to the Oscar-winning “Godzilla Minus One,” confirming that stars Hidetaka Yoshioka (吉岡秀隆), Yuki Yamada (山田裕貴), Kuranosuke Sasaki (佐々木蔵之介), Sakura Ando (安藤サクラ), and Mio Tanaka (田中美央) will all reprise their roles. Veteran actor and dancer Min Tanaka (田中泯) joins the cast as a new addition. Director, screenwriter, and VFX supervisor Takashi Yamazaki returns from the previous film.

“Godzilla-0.0” is set in 1949, two years after the deadly battle depicted in “Godzilla Minus One.” Just as postwar Japan begins to find peace, a new threat emerges. The poster carries the tagline “Humanity’s sin and punishment. There’s no going back to zero,” showing Godzilla roaring beneath a dark, storm-filled sky as debris swirls through the air. The teaser shows Godzilla surfacing from the ocean and closing in on a seaplane.

As previously announced, Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe return as protagonist Koichi Shikishima and Noriko, who survived Godzilla’s attack in the first film. Min Tanaka will play Kanji Murakami, a biologist carrying deep emotional scars from the war. Among the returning cast, Yoshioka plays Kenji Noda, now head of a major disaster countermeasures bureau; Yamada plays Shiro Mizushima, a crew member of the ship Shinsei Maru; Sasaki plays the ship’s captain, Seiji Akitsu; Ando plays Sumiko Ota, Shikishima’s neighbor who now runs an orphanage; and Tanaka Mio plays Tatsuo Hotta, former captain of the destroyer Yukikaze.

In statements released alongside the announcement, Yoshioka said, “Both the director and I know that a sequel isn’t an easy challenge, so I approached filming with real resolve.” Sasaki said he felt “proud beyond words” to reunite with the cast and take the helm of the Shinsei Maru again, while Ando said she performed her role “while reflecting on the time each character has carried since ‘Godzilla Minus One.'”

“Godzilla-0.0” opens in Japanese theaters on November 3, 2026, and in North America on November 6, 2026.

Who is Min Tanaka?

Min Tanaka is a Japanese dancer and actor widely regarded as one of the founding figures of contemporary butoh dance. Beyond the stage, he has built a substantial acting career, appearing in international productions including David Lynch’s “Twin Peaks: The Return” and Ang Lee’s “Ride with the Devil.” In his statement on joining “Godzilla-0.0,” Tanaka, now in his 80s, reflected on having witnessed Godzilla’s screen debut in 1954 as a nine-year-old, writing that he still feels the same childlike wonder today.
