Japanese rock band King Gnu has announced its first solo concerts in the United States, with shows set for Los Angeles and New York in the spring of 2027.

The band revealed the “King Gnu US TOUR 27” on October 30, confirming a Los Angeles date on March 26, 2027, followed by a New York performance on April 2, 2027. The announcement comes as King Gnu approaches the 10th anniversary of its formation, and follows a run of dome shows the band played across Japan.

Further details on venues, ticketing, and additional dates have not yet been announced. The tour marks King Gnu’s first time headlining its own shows on American soil, following years of steadily building an international fan base through streaming and social media.

Who is King Gnu?

King Gnu is a four-member Japanese band formed in 2015 by vocalist and guitarist Daiki Tsuneta, vocalist and guitarist Seiichi Tange, bassist Kazuki Arai, and drummer Yu Seki. The group is known for blending rock, funk, and classical influences, and broke through nationally with the 2019 single “Hakujitsu,” used as the theme song for a hit Japanese TV drama. Since then, King Gnu has become one of Japan’s biggest rock acts, regularly headlining arena and dome tours and racking up hundreds of millions of streams both in Japan and abroad.

Author’s Comment

I’ll admit it — watching a Japanese band finally say ‘yes, we’re doing New York’ never stops being satisfying. King Gnu didn’t need an overseas gimmick to get here; they built this the old-fashioned way, dome tour by dome tour, until the algorithm did the rest of the work for them. Two shows, two coasts — modest by stadium-tour standards, but exactly the kind of ‘test the waters’ move that’s smart before you start wondering if LA crowds know when to stay quiet during the quiet parts. Just don’t be the fan who shows up expecting nothing but ‘Hakujitsu.’ Half the fun of this band is that they refuse to be one song.
