&TEAM (エンティーム) will hold its first-ever VR concert in the United States, with “&TEAM VR CONCERT: BOUNDLESS” set to screen at the Regal LA Live cinema in Los Angeles from August 13 to August 23.
The concert film was shot specifically for VR, using 12K resolution footage paired with the theater’s high-end sound system to create what’s being billed as a “cinematic VR concert.” The visuals are designed to place viewers closer to the members than even a front-row seat would allow, and the show includes the members’ first extended voice-acting performances, woven into a story-driven format meant to deepen the sense of immersion. The setlist centers on &TEAM’s Japanese-language songs, with MC segments also delivered in Japanese and English subtitles provided for the Los Angeles run, reflecting the group’s stated “Japan to Global” approach.
The VR concert arrives during a packed stretch for the group in the U.S. On August 12, &TEAM will appear at “Global Spin Live: &TEAM,” a special event at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles marking their first American stage performance, followed by a KCON LA appearance on August 14. The group is also in the middle of its second and largest Asia tour to date, spanning 14 cities. Its July 25-26 shows at LaLa Arena Tokyo-Bay in Chiba were live-viewed globally, screening in roughly 70 theaters in Japan, about 20 across the rest of Asia, and around 20, 30, and 120 theaters in Brazil, Mexico, and the U.S. respectively.
Who is &TEAM?
&TEAM is a Japan-based global boy group formed by HYBE Labels Japan, made up of members from Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, and Vietnam. The group’s third EP, “We on Fire,” released in April, became its third consecutive million-selling release and made &TEAM the first Japan-origin boy group to chart on the U.S. Billboard 200 main albums chart.
With the VR concert, the Grammy Museum appearance, and KCON LA all landing within weeks of each other, &TEAM’s push into the U.S. market is accelerating fast heading into the back half of the year.
Author’s Comment
A VR concert at a movie theater is such a delightfully overengineered solution to "we want US fans to feel like they’re in Chiba," and I love it. Japanese entertainment companies have spent decades being cautious about going global, so watching &TEAM stack a Grammy Museum event, KCON, and a 12K VR concert into the same two weeks feels like someone finally hit the accelerator. Keeping the setlist and MCs in Japanese while wrapping it all in English subtitles is a smart bit of cultural confidence, too — no dumbing it down, just translating the door. I’ll believe the "front row and beyond" hype when I see it, but if it gets even one skeptical Western fan to sit through a full song in Japanese, mission accomplished.
