Repezen Foxx was a five-man DJ and YouTuber collective from Fukuoka, in southern Japan, and for a decade one of the loudest, most polarizing acts on Japanese YouTube. Formed in August 2015 under the name Repezen Chikyu (“Repezen Earth” — “repezen” is Japanese slang borrowed from the hip-hop phrase “representing”), the group mixed self-produced party anthems with stunt-heavy videos and grew its channel to nearly four million subscribers before formally disbanding on December 31, 2025.
The group was led by DJ Shacho — literally “DJ President,” a former bar owner who became one of Japan’s most talked-about internet personalities — alongside DJ Foy, DJ Ginta, DJ Maru, and DJ Waki, a former manager who was promoted into the lineup. Unlike most Japanese acts of their size, they operated without a major talent agency or record label, funding and promoting their own music, videos, and arena shows.
Rise to Fame
DJ Shacho formed the group in Fukuoka in 2015, and the following year closed the bars he had been running to pursue entertainment full time. The early lineup shifted before settling into the five members fans came to know, and the group’s YouTube channel launched in 2016. Their formula — comedic, often deliberately provocative videos paired with a steady stream of self-released party singles — grew the channel at remarkable speed, and by 2018 they were able to fill the Makuhari Messe convention hall near Tokyo with a reported 15,000 fans.
Their growth was inseparable from what Japanese internet culture calls “enjo” (炎上, literally “going up in flames”): online firestorms of criticism. Repezen courted controversy so openly that commentators described their approach as “enjo marketing,” and the group itself titled a 2022 official photo book “Dai-Enjo” (“Great Flaming”). The strategy had real costs. In 2019 the group faced intense backlash after admitting that a supposed harassment scandal had been a staged publicity stunt — the members publicly apologized, and a planned dome concert was called off in the fallout — and YouTube at one point took down videos and shut down the group’s main channel over policy violations, forcing them to rebuild from a new channel.
In December 2020 the group staged a dramatic “disbandment” of Repezen Chikyu with a concert at Fukuoka’s PayPay Dome baseball stadium that drew a reported 40,000 attendees — only to relaunch on New Year’s Day 2021 under the name Candy Foxx, declaring a new ambition to succeed overseas. In June 2021 they adopted the name Repezen Foxx, which they kept until the end.
What Repezen Foxx Is Known For
- Party music on their own terms: the group released well over a hundred singles — rowdy, comedic EDM tracks about drinking, partying, and their own notoriety — entirely through their independent label.
- Self-produced mega-concerts: from Makuhari Messe to the PayPay Dome and Tokyo’s Yoyogi National Gymnasium, they repeatedly booked venues of a scale normally reserved for major-label stars.
- A global push: in the 2020s they toured and collaborated across Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia and Thailand, and performed at Rolling Loud Thailand in 2023.
- Ventures beyond music: members launched side businesses including the esports organization NOEZ FOXX, founded by DJ Foy and DJ Waki in 2023, which has fielded teams in games such as VALORANT and Apex Legends.
- Controversy as identity: few Japanese acts have been as open about using outrage to grow, which made them a case study in both the power and the price of attention-driven stardom.
Recent Years
The group’s final act was turbulent. In December 2023, DJ Shacho abruptly vanished from public activity, a disappearance the group itself acknowledged, before returning in mid-2024. Over the course of 2024 the lineup then unraveled: DJ Ginta and DJ Maru departed in the spring, DJ Shacho left in August, and the group announced the dismissals of DJ Foy and DJ Waki by the end of the year, leaving Repezen Foxx with no active members.
On June 1, 2025, the group officially announced that Repezen Foxx would disband at the end of that year. Despite doubts about whether a memberless group could stage a farewell, all five former members reunited for “Repezen the Final” at Mizuho PayPay Dome Fukuoka on December 31, 2025, followed the same night by a countdown show at the Zepp Fukuoka live house, closing out ten years of activity.
The wind-down continued into 2026. That spring, the group’s management announced that its YouTube channel and social media accounts would stop operating in July 2026, with past videos taken private and the archive repackaged as a commemorative DVD box set. Then, on August 8, 2026, DJ Shacho announced on X that he was ending his own activities entirely, without giving a reason. As of autumn 2026, the former members have gone separate ways — DJ Foy now heads the esports company NOEZ FOXX, while Ginta has released music as a solo artist — and Repezen Foxx itself survives mainly as one of the defining, most debated stories of Japanese YouTube’s first decade.
