Kimagure Cook (きまぐれクック), the Japanese YouTuber known for his fishing and cooking videos, announced on X (formerly Twitter) on July 19, 2026, that his home had been broken into. The creator, whose real name is Kaneko (かねこ), said he was unharmed but lost fishing equipment and camera gear worth an estimated 5 million yen, or roughly $33,000.
According to Kaneko’s posts, the intruders disabled his security camera by spraying it with black paint from a blind spot, then forced open a door with a crowbar. “It was clearly the work of someone experienced,” he wrote, describing the break-in as calculated. He added that he would be reducing his upload frequency temporarily while he reworks his filming setup and strengthens security at the property.
The post drew a wave of concern from fans, many of whom speculated the burglary may have been planned in advance, noting how precisely the camera was targeted before the intruders entered. Some commenters pointed to Kaneko’s own videos — including past studio and home tour uploads showing an elaborate kitchen studio he built — as a possible source of information for anyone looking to target his residence. Several fans urged him to be more cautious about how much of his home he reveals in future content, while others suggested moving entirely.
No injuries were reported, and it remains unclear whether a suspect has been identified.
