Author’s Comment
Well, color me charmed — an actress falls for the director who cast her in his art-house passion project, and now they’re calling each other family. It’s the classic "we met on set and things got real" story, except in Japan it arrives wrapped in the most demure language imaginable: no ring selfie, no champagne emoji, just a solemn vow to prioritize each other’s health. Somewhere in Hollywood a publicist is weeping at how little spectacle this took. I love that Kaho, who’s been quietly excellent since she was practically a teenager, chose a partner from the scrappy indie film world instead of the usual celebrity power-couple playbook. BAUS and Bialystocks fans, get ready to watch your two favorite people finish each other’s sentences at every press junket from here on out.
