Ado Plays to 140,000 Fans at Nissan Stadium, Joined by Surprise Guest Mafumafu

Japanese singer Ado closed out a milestone two-night run at Nissan Stadium in Kanagawa on July 4 and 5, 2026, drawing a combined 140,000 fans to Japan’s largest-capacity stadium for her show “Ado STADIUM LIVE 2026 ‘Ao.'” The concert, named after Sawaki Ao, the young protagonist of Ado’s own autobiographical novel “Vivarium: Ado and Me,” became one of the most personal and elaborate productions of her career.

The July 5 show opened with idol group Phantom Siita, followed by Ado’s own set, which spanned her earliest hits like “Usseewa” through her most recent singles. Midway through the performance, dozens of orchestra musicians and a conductor rose from beneath the stage to accompany Ado on ballads including “Haru ni Mau” and “Kaze no Yukue,” while pyrotechnics and towering water fountains punctuated harder-edged numbers such as “Tot Musica” and “Gyakkou.”

Fans also got two live debuts: the full-length version of “Monstro,” the theme song for the upcoming film “Blue Lock,” due out August 7, and “Love me forever!,” a track written by Tsunku for the Nintendo Switch game “Rhythm Heaven Miracle Stars.” Ado performed both while riding a cart around the arena, alongside costumed characters from the anime “Chibi Maruko-chan.”

The night’s biggest surprise came when singer Mafumafu (まふまふ) appeared onstage after Ado covered his song “Tachiiri Kinshi.” The pair then duetted on Mafumafu’s “Kokoro to Iu Na no Fukakai.” Ado told the crowd that Mafumafu is the utaite, or online cover artist, she respects most, crediting him with paving the way for her own career; Mafumafu in turn praised her for expanding what utaite culture could achieve.

Before her final song, Ado grew emotional, telling the audience she has often struggled with self-doubt and dark thoughts, but that performing gives her a reason to keep going. “If this life can be of use to someone, if I can save someone, then I still want to keep singing as Ado,” she said, before closing the night with “Vivarium.”

Who is Ado?

Born in 2002, Ado began her career in January 2017 by posting a cover of a Vocaloid song on Niconico as an utaite, part of Japan’s online community of singers who post covers of Vocaloid and original songs, often without showing their faces. Her 2020 major-label debut single “Usseewa” became a social phenomenon and turned her into one of Japan’s most recognizable vocalists. She released her debut album “Kyogen” in 2022 and voiced the singing parts of the character Uta in that year’s “One Piece Film Red.” In 2025, marking her fifth anniversary as a major-label artist, she released her first best-of album and toured Japan’s domed arenas for the first time that November.
