Seiji Miyane Explains Why He’s Leaving Long-Running Show ‘Miyaneya’ After Nearly 20 Years

Veteran Japanese broadcaster Seiji Miyane (宮根誠司), 63, has revealed why he decided to step down from the long-running program “Joho Live Miyaneya,” the daily news and variety show he has hosted for years on Yomiuri TV and Nippon TV.

Miyane made the comments on July 5 in Tokyo, where he was honored with the “Platinum Challenge Award” at the 12th Platinum Age Awards ceremony, hosted by the Platinum Age Promotion Association. During the event, he opened up about his decision to leave “Miyaneya,” which airs on weekdays at 1:55 p.m., with his final appearance set for this September.

According to the freelance announcer, even at 63 he still feels treated as a “mid-career” figure in the industry, and said he wants to use what he called the “golden time” of his life to take on a new major challenge. He did not specify what that next project might be, but framed his departure from “Miyaneya” as a deliberate step toward a new chapter rather than a retirement.

Who is Seiji Miyane?

Seiji Miyane is one of Japan’s best-known television personalities, having built his career as a news anchor and MC across numerous programs. He has served as the main host of “Joho Live Miyaneya” since the show’s launch in 2006, guiding viewers through daily news, entertainment, and social affairs coverage for nearly two decades. Known for his sharp commentary and easygoing on-air style, Miyane has become a fixture of Japanese daytime television and has also appeared as a commentator on major news specials and sports broadcasts over the years.

With his exit from “Miyaneya” confirmed for September, attention will now turn to what Miyane’s next “big challenge” will be, though no further details have been announced.
