Japanese band King Gnu will perform the opening theme for the new anime series “Ghost in the Shell: THE GHOST IN THE SHELL,” set to premiere on the Kansai TV and Fuji TV network on July 7. The band’s new song, titled “GO GHOST,” will open each episode, while the ending theme, “Blue,” comes from MILLENNIUM PARADE, the project led by King Gnu vocalist and guitarist Daiki Tsuneta (常田大希).
A fifth promotional video for the series was released on YouTube, set to the pace of “GO GHOST” and featuring fast-cut, high-energy footage from the show. “Ghost in the Shell: THE GHOST IN THE SHELL” is the latest anime adaptation of Shirow Masamune’s manga of the same name. Set in a near-future Japan, the story follows Motoko Kusanagi, a full-body cyborg working for Public Security Section 9, as she investigates a mysterious hacker known as the “Puppet Master.” The series begins airing July 7 at 23:00 and will continue weekly on Tuesdays at the same time.
MILLENNIUM PARADE’s ending theme, “Blue,” was previously confirmed for the series in June, with the track featuring guest vocalists Saya Gray and Daniel Caesar.
Who is King Gnu?
King Gnu is a mixture band led by Daiki Tsuneta (常田大希, Vo, G), a graduate of Tokyo University of the Arts. The group took its current four-member lineup — Tsuneta, Seiya Ise (勢喜遊, Dr, Sampler), Kazuki Arai (新井和輝, B) and Satoru Iguchi (井口理, Vo, Key) — before changing its name from Srv.Vinci to King Gnu in April 2017.
The band made its major-label debut in January 2019 with the album “Sympa” on Ariola Japan. The following month, its song “Hakujitsu,” the theme for the Nippon TV drama “Innocence: Inosensu Enzai Bengoshi,” became the band’s biggest hit to date. King Gnu released the album “CEREMONY” in January 2020, played two nights at the Tokyo Dome in November 2022 — its first-ever dome shows — and closed out the “CEREMONY” era with stadium concerts in Osaka and Kanagawa in 2023.
In November 2023, the band released its fourth album, “THE GREATEST UNKNOWN,” supporting it with a five-dome tour across Japan and a run of Asia tour dates. King Gnu released the single “Nekko” in October 2024 and toured fan club venues in early 2025.
