Beauty and lifestyle YouTuber R-chan (Akari Ohno, 29) announced on August 11 via her YouTube channel that she has broken up with her boyfriend.
A Relationship That Lasted Only One Month
R-chan had been dating a company executive named Yoshida, nicknamed “Toshipi,” whom she met at a “Boyfriend Audition” hosted by fellow YouTuber Hikaru at the end of June. In the video, filmed during her birthday trip to Paris, she revealed that the relationship had ended in late July, stating, “To get straight to the point, I’ve broken up with Yoshida-san (Toshipi), the man I started dating after selecting him in the Boyfriend Audition.”
How the Boyfriend Audition Came About
On April 25, R-chan announced the “1st Boyfriend Audition” on her YouTube channel, listing six conditions for applicants: “Late 20s to early 30s,” “annual income over 10 million yen (about $67,000),” “height 170 cm or taller,” “non-smoker,” “no tattoos,” and “never married.”
The audition drew 276 applicants, and in the end, the company executive was chosen. Explaining her decision, R-chan said, “I thought he was nice from the first interview. On the last day, during our one-on-one evening together, I knew he was the one.”
Reasons Behind the Breakup
In her latest video, R-chan detailed several issues that arose during the relationship. She said that Yoshida began displaying a verified badge on his Instagram account and asked her to help him start a YouTube channel so that “wedding expenses could be treated as business expenses.” When she refused, other questionable behaviors followed.
Previously, leaked LINE messages between Yoshida and another woman had surfaced, revealing that Yoshida had said things such as “I want her influence to use for business” and “Let’s break up once the project (Boyfriend Audition) is over, and then we can date for real.”
Apology to Fans
In the video, R-chan apologized to her viewers, saying, “I’m truly sorry, I’m frustrated. I can almost hear people saying, ‘See, I told you so!’ over and over in my head. I’m really sorry, and I’m sorry it had to end like this.” She also admitted she had been serious about the relationship, adding, “The time we spent together was truly happy. I was thinking about marriage.”
Past Relationship Troubles
R-chan has had relationship troubles in the past. In April of this year, Shukan Bunshun reported that her engagement to RYOKI (Ryoki Miyama) of the seven-member dance and vocal group BE:FIRST had been called off after she allegedly provided over 100 million yen in financial support.
Currently, R-chan continues to be active as a popular YouTuber with about 850,000 subscribers, regularly posting beauty and lifestyle content. Her breakup announcement has received many comments from fans.
