Suisei Hoshimachi (Hoshimachi Suisei in Japanese name order) is a Japanese VTuber — a performer who sings, streams, and appears on stage as an animated character rather than showing her face. Affiliated with hololive production, one of Japan’s biggest VTuber agencies, she has grown from a self-made internet singer into one of the country’s most successful virtual artists, with albums high on Japan’s official music charts, sold-out solo concerts, and, since March 2026, her own personal agency, Studio STELLAR.
What sets Suisei apart from most famous VTubers is that she was never primarily a gaming or chat streamer. From the start she presented herself as an idol — in Japan, an all-around singer and performer who grows together with her fans — and treated VTubing as a route to a real music career. The bet paid off: she became the first VTuber invited onto the popular Japanese music channel THE FIRST TAKE, headlined Nippon Budokan, and in 2026 received her own Fortnite Icon Series skin.
Rise to Fame
Suisei debuted on March 22, 2018 as a fully independent VTuber, even drawing her own original character design. After roughly a year of self-promotion, she joined INoNaKa Music, a music label run by hololive’s parent company Cover, in May 2019, and that December transferred into the main hololive branch, where she is grouped with the agency’s earliest solo debuts as “generation 0.” Her name hints at her concept: “Suisei” means comet, while “Hoshimachi” suggests a city of stars.
Singing streams and covers built her early audience, but her first album, Still Still Stellar (2021), was the turning point. Carried by her signature song “Stellar Stellar,” it reached the top ten of the Oricon chart, Japan’s industry-standard music ranking — rare territory for a VTuber at the time. In January 2023 she performed “Stellar Stellar” on THE FIRST TAKE, a YouTube channel where artists record a song in a single take; she was the first VTuber ever featured, and the video quickly drew millions of views.
Her later albums Specter (2023) and Shinsei Mokuroku (2025) charted even higher, and she also records as half of Midnight Grand Orchestra, a unit formed in 2022 with composer TAKU INOUE. In 2024 her dance-pop single “Bibbidiba” became a crossover viral hit, setting a record as the fastest VTuber music video to reach ten million views and passing one hundred million within the year. In 2025 she was named to Forbes Japan’s “30 Under 30” list.
What Suisei Hoshimachi Is Known For
Several things define Suisei’s public image for both Japanese and overseas fans:
- Live performance. She has climbed steadily from her first solo concert in 2021 to her first solo tour, “Spectra of Nova” (2024), to a February 2025 headline show at Nippon Budokan — a storied Tokyo venue that symbolizes “making it” for Japanese musicians.
- Original music. Songs like “Comet,” “Stellar Stellar,” “Bibbidiba,” and 2026’s “Primadonna” are hers as an artist, not just stream content, and regularly chart alongside mainstream J-pop.
- A sharp, down-to-earth streaming persona. Officially “eternally 18” with a birthday on March 22, she is beloved for her quick wit, and among fans she is also famous for her formidable Tetris skills. Her fans are called Hoshiyomi, or “stargazers.”
Recent Years
The stretch since 2025 has been the busiest of her career. Her third album Shinsei Mokuroku arrived in January 2025 and peaked at number three on Oricon, and weeks later she headlined Nippon Budokan with the “SuperNova” concert on February 1, 2025. She followed it with “SuperNova: REBOOT” at K-Arena Yokohama in February 2026.
On March 22, 2026 — her eighth anniversary — Cover and Suisei announced Studio STELLAR, a personal agency that now handles her solo music, streaming, merchandise, and fan club, while she remains part of hololive production for group projects and events. Her first release under the new agency, the digital single “Primadonna,” followed the very next day. Earlier that month she had joined Fortnite’s Icon Series, complete with an emote based on “Bibbidiba.”
As of October 2026 she is in the middle of her first arena tour under Studio STELLAR: “Once Upon a Stellar” opened at K-Arena Yokohama in September and runs through Kobe, Nagoya, and Fukuoka until November 12. With her YouTube channel approaching three million subscribers as of late 2026 and a new level of creative independence, Suisei stands as perhaps the clearest proof that a VTuber can operate on the same footing as a mainstream Japanese pop artist.
